Following the success of ‘Beat the Street’ when it visited Lanark in February/March 2019, our community have been selected to pilot a new project.
Active Schools are launching this project called ‘Lanark on the Move’ as we look to encourage increased physical activity via active travel within the Lanark learning community and therefore supporting improved air quality.
To support your ‘on the Move’ journey you can access the resource below to identify trees in Lanark. Castlebank Park has been utilised, with support from the Castlebank Horticultural Centre. All trees will have ID information at their bases from Friday morning (2nd October). Can you find all the trees mentioned?

What’s coming up :
- Lanark Map Challenge (February/March 2021)
- Similar to Beat the Street, with a mapped route to get the whole community active. Although the route will be not be in as many residential areas and will be encouraging participants towards Castlebank Park, Lanark Loch, New Lanark and other historical landmarks, while engaging with Sports and community Hubs. The aim is to take people on (a good walk) and encourage active travel. Further details will follow next year.
- Children will get ‘on the Move’ to find out what Active Schools mascot Leo the Lion has been up to at each ‘Move Maker’ and for older children and adults an active quiz will be available.
- 1,000,000 Step – Community Weekend Challenge (March/April 2021)
- This school/community step challenge will look to engage with the Lanark Map challenge and will require 100 people to get 10,000 steps.
- Bikeability Support (2021): With increased active travel, hopefully more pupils will be cycling to school.
